ICMH receives generous gift from John Carl “JC” MacIsaac Foundation

Inverness, NS – John Carl “J.C.” MacIsaac’s impact on the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital (ICMH) and Inverness County, is one that should never be forgotten.

J.C. left Glencoe Mills at the age of 18 and headed to Timmins, Ontario. He worked for a variety of mining companies before setting out on his own as a mining contractor in 1947. MacIsaac Industries Ltd. was incorporated in 1953 and for the next four decades, he worked in mining operations across Canada and beyond. Besides mining, J.C. founded one of Northern Ontario’s largest steel fabricating plants and established Northern Ontario’s only horse racing facility. Now, with the guidance of his son, Patrick and grandson, Andrew, J.C.’s legacy and his generosity to Inverness County lives on.

Through the John Carl MacIsaac Foundation, the ICMH Charitable Foundation received a generous gift of $50,000 donation to their Perioperative Services (surgical) department. A new surgical table is now in use at ICMH and is a welcome addition to the operating room.

“This is an amazing gift for our department, and it is so appreciated,” said Nicole Shaw, ICMH’s perioperative clinical nurse lead. “Our operating room serves not only Inverness County residents, but patients from all over Cape Breton and parts of the mainland.

Depending on the type of surgery needed, some people who are willing and well-enough to travel, may be able to get their surgery done quicker and discover the beauty of Inverness County while they are here.”

ICMH’s operating room is a busy place. Physicians – including an anesthetist, five general surgeons, two dental surgeons and a pediatric dental specialist – come from Inverness, Antigonish, Sydney and New Glasgow to work here. They are joined on the team by six nurses, one clerical and one environmental services staff.

The most common procedures done at ICMH are hernia repairs, gall bladder removals, carpal tunnel/trigger finger repairs, dental and endoscopy which are all same-day procedures.

“The charm of the ICMH operating room is the incredibly caring and attentive team,” explained Shaw. “They provide the most compassionate care, and their focus is always on the patient and their family. That, along with equipment like the new surgical table, ensures the patient is getting the best quality of care.”

The John Carl MacIsaac Foundation is proud to support the hard work of the staff at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. This donation is helping many people in this county. You can support your local hospital in Inverness too – every donation counts.
