New Technology a Game-Changer for Trauma Situations at ICMH

Dear Friends,

Thank You…. You helped us purchase a vital piece of equipment in our Emergency Department at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital in Inverness, Cape Breton.

You make a difference!

In trauma situations, every minute, every second counts.

Now, thanks to donors of the ICMH Charitable Foundation, new state-of-the-art technology, The Belmont Rapid Infuser, will help our healthcare team deliver more advanced patient care during trauma situations.

Heather Gillis, ICMH Facility Manager and Manager of Emergency Department, is grateful for this critical piece of technology. “When facing life-threatening situations, you want to know you have the most advanced, functional equipment at your fingertips for your patient,” explained Gillis, “Acquiring this machine is a game-changer in the care that we can provide to our patients and community.”

Gillis explained The Rapid Infuser has a very specific, critical task — it rapidly delivers lifesaving, warmed blood products and fluid at the touch of a button. When the team cares for patients requiring resuscitation or who need a large volume of blood because of a hemorrhage, patients receive transfusions quicker.

Dr. Susie Egar, ICMH physician, explained the importance of this critical piece of equipment, which was purchased at a cost of $54,985. “Unfortunately, when trauma victims are brought to a rural hospital, they are far away from definite care such as a trauma surgeon. This equipment allows us to buy precious time to try to resuscitate a patient and get them to that definite care that exists a distance from ICMH.”

Dr Egar is very thankful to donors. “We’re so grateful for those who donate to the ICMH Charitable Foundation and their incredible generosity. It is humbling to feel the support of the community that is so important to all of us who work at ICMH.”

We encourage you to make your donation for the ICMH Charitable Foundation’s Annual Appeal to continue to purchase these types of hospital equipment which will make a major difference in people’s lives.
